Orange Molasses Bread

3/4 cup sugar
4 cup sifted all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon soda
3 teaspoon baking powder
2 teaspoon salt
1 1/3 cup coarsely chopped nuts
1 cup evaporated milk
2 tablespoon grated orange rind
3/4 cup orange juice
3 tablespoon melted shortening
3/4 cup unsulphured molasses

Sif together flour, sugar, soda, baking powder, and salt. Add nuts. Combine evaporated milk, orange rind, orange juice, shortening, and molasses. Add to flour mixture all at once. Stir just to blend. Turn into a greased and wax-paper lined 9x5x3 loaf pan. Bake at 325 for one hour and 15 minutes. Makes 1 loaf.
