Bran Candy

2 cup brown sugar
1 cup sugar
1 cup milk
1/8 teaspoon baking soda
1 tablespoon butter or butter substitute
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup bran
Boil all ingredients except bran to soft ball stage (234 - 238 F). Cool to room temperature. Add bran. If desired, 1/2 cup raisins, dates, or nuts may be added. Beat until stiff enough to knead. Turn onto board dusted with powdered sugar. Knead until smooth. Shape into a roll and slice. Margaret E. Johnson, Kent, WA.
