Ranger Cookies

1/2 cup butter or margarine; softened
1/2 cup brown sugar; packed
1/2 cup sugar; granulated
1 egg; large
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 1/4 cup flour; unbleached
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 cup rice cereal; crisp
1 1/2 cup coconut; flaked
1 cup dates; pitted and chopped
Cream sugars and butter. add egg, and vanilla; beat well. Stir together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt; stir into creamed mixture. Stir in crisp rice cereal (Rice Krispies for example), coconut, and dates. Form into 3/4-inch balls; place 2 1/2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees F. until lightly browned, about 10 minutes. Cool slightly before removing to a rack to cool completely. Makes 5 dozen.
