Great Little Snackers
appetizer, dips, low-cal
1 teaspoon olive oil
1 can garbanzo beans,16 oz.,drain
1/4 cup lite mayonnaise
1 teaspoon chili powder
1 each alfalfa sprouts for topping
1 each large onion,chopped
1/4 cup tahini
1 teaspoon low sodium tamari
1 each water as needed.1-2 t
72 each low-fat crackers
Heat oil in pan. Saute onions until light brown. Put in blender and add drained garbanzo beans, tahini, lite mayonnaise, tamari and chili powder. Mix until a smooth texture is obtained. Add water as needed to blend. Spread 1/2 tablespoon of this mix on low-fat crackers and top with alfalfa sprouts. (Small rounds of whole grain bread may be used instead of crackers.) Makes about 2 1/4 cups spread (enough for 72 crackers). Leftover spread freezes well for a month when stored in a tightly covered container.
