Raisin Cookies

1 cup brown sugar
1 cup water
2 tablespoon shortening
1 cup raisins
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 1/2 cup flour
1/2 teaspoon ginger

In a pot, combine the sugar, water, raisins, shortening & salt. Stir over a gentle heat until the sugar & shortening has melted. Raise heat & bring to a boil, stirring continuously. Simmer for 1 minute. Remove from heat & cool. Sift dry ingredients in a mixing bowl. Add the cooled mixture & mix well. Drop by the teaspoonful onto a cookie sheet. Bake at 350F for 15 minutes.
