Apple-apricot Bread

2/3 cup water, boiling
1 cup apricot, diced
2 cup flour, all-purpose
2 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon allspice
1 milk
1/2 cup shortening
3/4 cup sugar
1 egg, beaten
1 cup apple, chopped
3/4 cup walnuts, chopped
Pour boiling water over dried apricots and let stand. Sift flour, baking powder, soda, salt and allspice. Add milk to apricot juice to make 2/3 c. Beat the shortening adding sugar gradually. Beat in the egg. Add dry ingredients alternately with the liquid. Fold in the fruit and walnuts. Spoon into a greased and floured pan, 9x5. Bake in 350F oven for 1 hour. Cool on rack.
